    National Under-17 chess from today

    The National Under-17 Open and Girls Chess Championship will be held at the KCT College campus here from October 24 to November 1. The champions of this event will represent India in the World Under-18 Championship next year.

    The event is being organised under the auspices of Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, Dr. N. Mahalingam Chess Academy and Coimbatore District Chess Association. 

    Two players in each category from every affiliated State association of AICF are eligible to participate, said an AICF release. The top four players from 2016 National under 17 (Open & Girls) Chess Championships are eligible to participate as seeded players in their respective categories subject to age stipulation. 

    The top two players from 2016 National U-15 Open and Girls Championships are eligible to participate as seeded players in their respective categories. The Champions from 2016 National under 13 (Open & Girls) chess championships are eligible to participate as seeded player in their respective categories. 

    In addition to this, 2016 World Champion in any category subject to age stipulation, 2016 World No.2 & 3 in under 16 and under 18 categories subject to age stipulation and 2016 Asian U-18 top three rankers subject to age stipulation are also direct seeds in the competition. 

    The winner and runner up of 2016 National U-17 Girls’ Championship are also eligible to play in open section subject to age stipulation.
