An eighth standard student at PSBB School, Balasubramaniam carried home the winner’s prize of Rs. 25,000. He showed his class while taming former Tamil Nadu State champion Ram S Krishnan in the seventh and the final round to collect 6.5 points.
In a three-way tie for first place, Balasubrananiam was adjudged champion on account of better Bucholtz tiebreak score. The runner-up was R. Ashwath of Chennai who became richer by Rs 15,000. The third place went to school boy Manu David Suthandaram.
