India is like home away from home: Fazel
Debutants Gujarat Fortunegiants couldn’t have asked for a better campaign thus far sitting pretty on top of Zone A in Pro Kabaddi League Season 5. One of their pillars, Fazel Atrachali, had an exclusive chat with DT Next.
Chennai
The experienced left corner defender from Iran spoke on a variety of topics. The Gorgan born World Cup finalist had represented U Mumba and Patna Pirates in the earlier editions of PKL.
EXCERPTS:
Pro Kabaddi League has been life changing for many Indians. How much of an impact has it had in your career?
If the PKL hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t have got opportunities to play alongside legends like Anup Kumar and Rakesh Kumar. I have learnt a lot in both departments of the game (offense and defence) from a few of the senior guys in the circuit. It has helped me in shaping my career.
You have been coming to India for the past three years. How has the experience been here?
India is like my home away from home. I just love the people here. I have been in India for nearly four months and if there is going to be an extension of the league in the upcoming edition, I might be here for more than six months.
Do you face any communication barrier while talking to Indian players?
I don’t face any difficulty while discussing the sport of kabaddi. But when I talk about other facets of life during off days, there has been some trouble.
How has it been partnering Abozar Mighani (Right corner defender) at the Gujarat Fortunegiants?
We play for the same city (Gorgan) in the league back in Iran. We are both comfortable in communicating in Persian. All these factors have helped us in forming a dangerous combination in whichever team we have played together.
You were the ‘Best Defender’ of PKL 4. Any personal milestone which you are looking to achieve this season?
I am just thinking of making Gujarat Fortunegiants the champions of Pro Kabaddi League Season 5. I am not concentrating on achieving any personal milestone.
How is the Kabaddi system in Iran like?
We have a league where 16 teams compete for the title. There isn’t much coverage for it. It also lags in terms of technology usage when compared to the Pro Kabaddi League.
