Spirited Dragons see off Warriors challenge
Dindigul Dragons kept its campaign back on track in the Tamil Nadu Premier League after it defeated Ruby Trichy Warriors by 23 runs at the ICL Ground here on Saturday.
Thirunelveli
Ruby Trichy Warriors got off to a good start with the ball when R Jesuraj scalped the in-form opener Ganga Sridhar Raju. Subramania Siva who was also striking the ball well fell in the power-play to J Kousik. It was captain Ashwin Venkatraman who steadied the Dragons ship by stitching two crucial partnerships — first a handy 35 run partnership of 33 balls with N Jagadeesan followed by a 40-run partnership of a mere 22 balls with R Vivek.Â
A timely knock by R Vivek who scored a quick-fire 32 runs that came of just 17 balls improved their total. Â Aditya Arun also played a brilliant cameo towards the end smacking 17 of 7 balls to get their side to a competitive total of 154.Â
Trichy’s run chase got off to a horrible start as they lost opener Bharath Shankar in the second over. Captain Baba Indrajith was striking the ball well but couldn’t connect spinner MS Sanjay on one occasion and was stumped. Trichy struggled to build partnerships with the highest being 32 runs of 26 balls between J Kousik and Aditya Ganesh. They were never able to find that next gear to help them get to the target and in the end, fell 23 runs short.Â
Brief scores: Dindigul Dragons 154/7 in 20 overs (Anand Subramanian 41, R Vivek 32, R Jesuraj 2/17, M Prabhu 2/20) bt Ruby Trichy Warriors 131/7 in 20 overs (J Kousik 25, Wilkins Victor 2/16, Sunny Kumar 2/27)
