Kaalai win a humdinger against Veerans
Karaikudi Kaalai beat VB Thiruvallur Veerans by three wickets in a close Tamil Nadu Premier League game at the NPR College ground here on Wednesday. In a match of twists and turns, Karaikudi paced their innings well to chase down 168, chiefly anchored by Anirudha Srikkanth and later guided well by Ganpathy Chandrasekar.

Veerans, who won the toss and opted to bat first, got off to a flier, with NS Chaturved and S Siddharth continuing from where they left in the last game. The intent was clear as both the openers started going after the bowlers right from the first over.
Sonu Yadav struck twice in an over, picking both Chaturved (45) and S Sujay. With two new batsmen in, skipper Baba Aparajith (39) and R Kavin were forced to rotate singles instead of going for the shots.
It was Malolan Rangarajan’s cameo of 21 off 10 balls that turned the game again in the favour of the Veerans.
Meanwhile, Karaikudi got off to a similar start with Vishal Vaidya and Anirudha Srikkanth (55 not out) taking charge, utilising the batting powerplay to the fullest.
It all came down to Karaikudi needing seven off the last over. Ganpathy got out of the first ball, but Anirudha sent one to the boundary the very next ball to level the scores and then finished off the game, despite his injury.
Brief scores: Thiruvallur Veerans 167/7 in 20 overs (NS Chaturved 45, Sonu Yadav 2/44) lost to Karaikudi Kaalai 168/7 in 19.3 overs (Anirudha Srikkanth 55*).
