All the applicants will appear for an interview on July 10 before Cricket Advisory Committee comprising of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar ad VVS Laxman.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on May 25, decided to not to renew Anil Kumble’s year-long contract and put out a notification inviting application.
Reports of a rift between Anil Kumble ad skipper Virat Kohli then started coming out in the open but nothing was confirmed until the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 which India lost by 180 runs against Pakistan on June 18.
Kumble, on June 20, then stepped down from the head coach position citing Kohli’s reservations about his coaching style and untenable relationship. BCCI, then extended application deadline until July 9 and Ravi Shastri became the first one to apply for the coveted role post extension.
In a statement released to the media, the BCCI said, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the timeline for submission of applications for the post of ‘Head Coach’ for India Men’s Cricket Team. The candidates who have applied earlier need not re-apply and will be included in the final list of applicants. The last date for submission of applications is hence extended to the 9th of July, 2017.”
Simmons had a pretty good stint during his association with West Indies team and his achievements included the World T20 triumph before WICB cut short his term.
Along with Simmons, Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Doda Ganesh and Lalchand Rajput, Ravi Shastri have applied for the coach’s job to head the Indian cricket team.
