A record number of 1400 athletes will participate in the 90th Tamil Nadu State Senior Athletic Championships to be held at the JN Stadium in Chennai on June 24 and 25.

Addressing the media, Tamil Nadu Athletic Association president Walter Davaram said the senior squads of the state to participate in the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships at Guntur from July 15 to 18 and the National Open Athletics Championships in Chennai from September 25 to 28 will be selected from this meet.
Entries open for first wheelchair tennis tournamentÂ
The first AITA wheelchair tennis tournament, Marina Open, will be commence on August 1 at the SDAT Tennis Stadium. There is no entry fee for the tournament. Only players who are registered and handicapped as per the ITF Rules of Wheelchair tennis can participate in the event and must be registered with the governing body. The last date for entries is July 17. Entries must be sent to the Tournament Director, C/o Tamil Nadu Tennis Association, SDAT Tennis Stadium, Lake Area, Nungambakkam, Chennai.
FIDE rated chess tourney from todayÂ
The St. Joseph’s seventh international FIDE rating chess- tournament will be held at St. Joseph’s Institute of Technology, OMR, from June 24 to 29. Five special prizes for each category in Under-14 / 12 / 10 and U-8 will also be awarded. This event will be played in a nine-round Swiss format. 578 players registered for this event, among which 376 are rated players. Karthik Venkataraman, Ram S Krishnan, Bharath Subramaniyam and Ilamparti are some of the prominent top players competing for top honours.
