Although the ECB’s central contract system was overhauled last September to better reward the country’s white-ball specialists, bridging the financial gap to the Test team with increased appearance and performance-based fees, one crucial aspect of the previous arrangement remains in place.

The agreement for 100 per cent of prize money at ICC events to be shared between the playing squad — drawn up in 2013 when central contracts were renegotiated to run alongside the longterm television deal with Sky Sports that ends in 2019 — was retained.

It means the £1.7million winners’ cheque for the Champions Trophy, which begins on June 1, would be split equally between the 15-man squad should England triumph — a sum of £113,333 per player.

Reaching the final would guarantee £56,666 each, while winning the World Cup on home soil in two years’ time would see each player pocket £231,000.

England open their campaign against Bangladesh at the Oval on June 1 before group clashes with New Zealand and Australia.
