Indore
Parthiv Patel elected to field and his medium-pacers led by veteran Rudra Pratap Singh (2/48) bowled with a lot of discipline to restrict the strong Mumbai batting line-up. Prithvi Shaw (71) played a lone hand aganst Gujarat with some delightful stroke-play. Â Suryakumar Yadav (57) looked set but then he threw his wicket away and Abhishek Nayar (35) ran out of partners in the end. The Gujarat seamers bowled within themselves but got the ball to move at the Holkar Stadium pitch. RP started the slide as left handed Akhil Herwadkar got a fuller delivery that straightened enough to catch him plumb infront.Â
Shreyas Iyer (14) edged Gaja to Parthiv Patel behind the stumps. Equally adept on front and backfoot, Prithvi played with panache. He hit 11 boundaries in all. At 17 years and 62 days, Prithvi became the youngest half-centurion in a Ranji Trophy final. He looked set for a century when a horrible mix-up with Surya saw him run out. Surya called for a sharp single. The duo added 52 runs.Â
Once Prithvi was gone, Surya got into the act hitting some lusty drives. Surya, who hit seven fours and a six in 133 balls, fell he tried to pull a short one from Gaja to Hardik at midoff. Siddhesh Lad (23) was out to a poor decision and Mumbai struggled to put up a good score. Nayar tried his best to prolong the innings but did not get support at the other end. It is up to Samit Gohil (2) and inform Priyank Panchal (0) to bat Mumbai out of the contest.
