The right-handed batsman, who roared back to form with a timely 136 in the fourth Test at Mumbai, admitted that it was a special feeling to be a part of the Test match at Chennai.

“It will be fun. After a long time, we are getting to play at Chepauk. The feeling of playing at home is special. I have watched a lot of first-class games sitting in this same ground and I feel blessed to be a part of the team,” Vijay told bcci.tv.

The right-hander said he hoped for a huge support from the local crowd, who are known to be vociferous and knowledgeable. “The stadium has a good capacity and the feel to be at the middle is unbelievable with the support. The view down the straight is brilliant too,” Vijay added.

Praising fellow Chennai player Ravichandran Ashwin, Vijay said he is a role model for the youngsters from the city. “We started together. He made his first-class debut two games later. We are very close and we know each other well. He has been doing extremely well for the country and it is good for youngsters to idolise him,” Vijay said.
