With 14 points from 12 games, the defending champions will now have to win both of their remaining games in the league stage and hope at the same time that other results also go their way. The towering Italian didn’t hide his disappointment after the match. “What went wrong was that we conceded a goal and then we were not awarded a penalty, and in the second half they were very good in counter-attacks and that is only because we were attacking all the time,” the 43-year-old said. “We knew we were in a must-win situation and now we know that we have to win the next two games to get six points and we have shown we can battle every team but if the referee does not see that a player is not playing football and playing volleyball, then there is not much we can do. Once you are 1-0 down, it is very tough but we still believe that we can win and make it to the semis.” This was the first time in ISL history that Mumbai manged to get the better of Chennaiyin. Materazzi admitted the Mumbaikars, who reached their maiden semis with the win, were hot to handle on the night. “Yes, they are a very solid team and they do not concede many goals and they are also very good in the attacking department and you have got to admit when the opponent is good and in this case, they were really good,” he said.

Atletico get the better of FC Goa

Stephen Pearson scored in the dying moments of the game to help Atletico de Kolkata beat FC Goa 2-1 in their Indian Super League match.

The visitors went ahead in the 28th minute when Abinash Ruidas sent a cross to the deep where Juan Belencoso  rose to the highest to nod the ball home. Goa restored parity in the 80th minute with a sumptuous Mandar Rao Dessai strike. Rafael Coelho Luiz, from the left, crossed the ball towards Mandar who took a touch before unleashing a powerful low drive. The ball went through the legs of Pritam Kotal and into the bottom right corner. ATK shot into the lead again in injury time on the counter when Pearson put the ball past a hapless Kattimani as Goa remained rooted at the bottom.
