Vineeth’s brace helps Kerala drub Chennai
C K Vineeth was the star for Kerala Blasters scoring twice in four minutes as Blasters drubbed Chennaiyin FC 3-1 in their Indian Super League match here on Saturday.
Chennaiyin were the first to take the lead when Bernard Mendy took Raphael Augusto’s pass on the left flank and shot it on goal. The Chennai skipper powered into the box and took a shot on goal that deflected off a Kerala defender and put Kerala custodian Graham Stack off guard.
Kerala caught up with Chennaiyin in the 67th minute when Antonio German took a long ball on the left wing. German then passed the ball through Eli Sabia’s legs, who was marking him, and Didier Kadio tapped the ball in without any fuss.
The home team took the lead in the 85th minute when local lad C K Vineeth fired in a scissors kick after Chennaiyin’s custodian Duwayne Kerr makes a fumble. The Chennai custodian was found wanting for the second time as Vineeth wasted no time in finding the back of the net.
Four minutes later it was Vineeth again who gave Kerala a two-goal cushion and sealed the game as he latched on to a through ball to and rounded Kerr as the Kerala bench erupted in joy.
The win sent Kerala to the third place while Chennaiyin remained seventh with 10 points.
