Winning start for Viji, Kannamma
Tamil Nadu’s Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman and Bala Kannamma recorded first-round wins in the National Premier Women Chess Championship in New Delhi on Thursday. Both Bala and Viji played with black pieces.

While Bala Kannamma got the better of TN mate R Vaishali in Sicilian Defence in 26 moves with a Queen and rook mating attack, Viji employed the same defence but finished her attack with a mating attack in 41 moves.
Hari barges into top 10
Indian GM Pentala Harikrishna has moved into the World Top 10. In the November 2016 rating list of FIDE, Harikrishna is at the 10th place with a rating of 2768. Viswanathan Anand is in the seventh place with 2779 points.
