Chennaiyin FC will get better as we go on: Wadoo

The right-back, who scored the second goal for Chennaiyin against Goa, said his stint with Chennaiyin has helped him improve by leaps and bounds. “I can see a lot of changes in myself. I have improved my defensive quality. With Materazzi being a defender, I have learnt many key points on how to defend. I have worked on how I position myself and it is bearing fruits,” he said. 

Wadoo has adapted himself in different positions, from a striker to a defender, under various coaches he has worked with. “I started as a striker in school. When I was selected for the U-21 team in Jammu & Kashmir, the coach made me play in defence. I was a centre-back when I played with Hindustan Aeronautics. The different coaches I worked under had different strategies. I was used as a holding mid-fielder in Mohun Bagan. I just give my best wherever I am. Right now, my favourite position is the right-flank. It has been three years and I am loving it. My aim is to give the best,” he added. 

Wadoo said Chennaiyin’s best is yet to come. “We are yet to gel completely as a team. The more games we play, the better we become. We were the one of the first teams to almost get eliminated last year but we ended up being champions. There is a lot to come. We have to be patient. The improvement is visible,” the Kashmiri added. 

Talking about the Indian players, Wadoo said, “Indian players are giving comptetion to the foreigners. They are taking shots and hjlding the ball well. We are doing very well now.”
