We would like to have two events in Chennai next year: Mundy
Uttam Singh Mundy is happy that the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) is growing. With Chennai back in the loop after a gap of seven years, the PGTI director hopes for more and says he would try to double it next year.

“PGTI is on the rise. It is 10 years since we started the tour and I am sure it will grow both in terms of events and new venues,” said Mundy, a former golfer, who took up the reins of administration in 2009.
Uttam said he is delighted to be back in Chennai where he had won The Hindu event in 2005 after a play-off with Muniyappa. “Chennai has been a great stop on tour for Indian golfers,” recalls Mundy.
“We had three or four events in this part of the country (called the Southern swing) and slowly they disappeared from the chart.” Mundy, who last played in 2008 on the tour, has no regrets that he has taken up the role of director (operations) of PGTI. “In fact, it was a challenging job. It was a lot easier for me because I was a golfer myself; it is easier to understand the players, which is important,” says the PGTI director. Mundy is looking at a faster growth for the tour over the next few years.
“We had a new golf course, Kalhaar Blues and Greens, last year in Ahmedabad, we had the Kochi golf course near the airport three years ago, so these are all developments,” says a proud Mundy, who cited the launch of the Kolkata Classic earlier this year in the city of joy as another important step on the PGTI calendar. With this, Kolkata would have two events of PGTI. Mundy said the Indian talents would continue to excel on the Asian and World Tour. “After Arjun (Atwal), we have Anirban (Lahiri) and SSP (Chowrasia), who have also represented the country in the Olympics (in Rio de Janeiro) and it will get better,” hoped Mundy.
