Blasters beat Mumbai, register first win
Kerala Blasters registered their first win of the Indian Super League when they beat Mumbai City FC 1-0 in their league match at the Nehru Stadium here on Friday.
Blasters’ win also handed Mumbai City their first defeat in four matches. The home side started off on the front foot and maintained the high tempo of the game. They created many chances but couldn't make them count, courtesy poor finishing. Blasters had the chance to go ahead in the 17th minute when Sandesh Jhingan sent a superb ball into the box to Kervens Belfort, who was on target. But his shot was well stopped by Sehnaj Singh and the danger was averted. By the hour mark, it was veteran Michael Chopra who broke the deadlock, scoring for Kerala Blasters. The Englishman found himself in the right place at the right time after Kervens Belfort fired a shot on goal but could not get much power behind it. Chopra intercepted the shot and tapped the ball past a hapless Roberto Volpato Netto as the Kerala bench erupted in joy.
