Local League: JIT, Hindustan win south zone basketball

JIT defeated MCC, Chennai 88-73 to be crowned champions while in the women’s group Hindustan University defeated Jain University, Bangalore, 70-62. 

In the bronze medal match, in the men’s category, Hindustan University defeated SRM University 51-37. 

Results of the BCCI plate group senior women one-day league: Karnataka 168 in 49.4 overs (V.R. Vanitha 69, V. Karuna Jain 34) bt Kerala 84 in 46 overs (Debasmitha Dutta 4/13); Gujarat 176/9 in 50 overs (Anagha Deshpande 42, Darshan Rajput 36) lost to Jharkhand 177/9 in 48.5 overs (Shobha Kumari 29, Priyanka Sawaiyan 27, Khushboo Patel 3/33); Vidarbha 163 in 48.3 overs (Bharti Fulmali 45, Neha Dabli 38, Ankita Jalla 3/22) bt J & K 100 in 41 overs (Neeru Manhas 37).

Jeppiar overcame a stiff resistance from Dr Sivanthi in the third set and won the Tamil Nadu State Volleyball Championship at Tirunelveli on Sunday. Jeppiar won 25-15,25-20, 31-29. IOB Chennai entered the final in the men’s section. IOB beat SRM University 25-23, 25-21, 26-23 in the semi-final and will meet STC Pollachi in the final. In the women’s section, Jeppiar Engineering College defeated Sports Hostel Excellance 25-22, 2513, 25-15 and Dr Sivanthi prevailed over GKMF, Kanchi 25-15, 24-26, 23-25, 25-10, 25-12 in the second.
