    Abhimanyu’s heroics lift Chhattisgarh

    Chhattisgarh’s Abhimanyu Chouhan scored 151 off 152 balls and sent Jharkhand bowlers on a leather hunt as his team ended their innings at a massive 399/6 in 90 overs in the final round of the all-India Buchi Babu invitation tournament at the CPT-IP ground here on Thursday.

    Abhimanyu, whose knock included 14 boundaries and five maximum’s, was involved in two century partnerships with Ashutosh Singh (60) and Ajay Mandal (50). His partnership of 118 with Mandal came off just 95 balls as the Chhattisgarh batsmen made merry. Sonu Kumar Singh was the only bowler of repute for Jharkhand as he took three wickets but gave away 115 runs off his 27 overs.

    A quick-fire partnership of 33 off 16 balls between Abhimanyu and V Nitish Rao ended a wretched day for Jharkhand as the last 20 overs yielded 142 runs for Chhattisgarh.

    Elsehwere, Uttar Pradesh were bowled out for 276 against TNCA Presidents XI and the Tamil Nadu team ended the first day at 39 for no loss in 11 overs. Rinku Singh was the top scorer for Uttar Pradesh scoring 101 off 109 balls. MS Sanjay was the most successful bowler for TNCA returning with figures of 6/75 in 19 overs.
