S Ramesh (22), the sportsperson, had also earlier represented the national team that won against Thailand in a recent international exhibition match.

Ramesh, a final-year BSc Biochemistry student from a private college and a resident of Minnathampatti in Thottiyam was among the five members representing Tamil Nadu in the national team for wheel-chair basketball. His left leg was amputated after an accident in 2002 while he was in Class 3 in Thottiyam.

During his days in college, he was introduced to this game by a differently abled welfare society. As he made an impressive performance in various events, he was selected for the state team in 2014 in Chennai, 2015 in New Delhi and 2016 (yet to be scheduled).

Ramesh, a four-point classified player, who can turn all sides, has been a key player in the state team. His good show earned him a place in the national team which has six from Punjab, five from Tamil Nadu and one from New Delhi. The district collector KS Palanisamy felicitated and gave certificate merits and a cash support for his expenses to participate in practice session.
