Jamaica’s ‘family offer’ for India Test

Marketing director for Cricket Jamaica, Mark Neita says there are plans to engage a younger demographic. “The youth are the future of West Indies cricket and, with the recent success of the West Indies teams in the ODI male, female and Under-19 world tournaments, there is a renewed excitement surrounding our cricket. Most of the enthusiasm surrounds T20 and ODI, but if the West Indies do win in this series, I am sure that it will extend to Test cricket”, Neita explained. He added: “After all, the great salaries that are being paid to cricketers extend also to Test cricket. Cricket is certainly a viable option for our youngsters.” 

Cricket fans attending the matches at Sabina Park are in for a treat. The organisers have promised special incentives. “A paying adult will be allowed to have two children under 12 years of age enter free, and adults over 65 years old will be allowed free into the park with proper ID. We are promoting this event as a family friendly event and we want all ages to attend,” Neita shared. The official launch of the Test cricket series is set for July 21 at Sabina Park and, according to Neita, a media campaign has already commenced.

Uncapped fast bowler Miguel Cummins on Wednesday replaced Jerome Taylor in the upcoming Test series against India, the West Indies Cricket Board has (WICB) announced. The replacement came as Taylor announced his retirement from the longer format a couple of days back. The 25-year-old Cummins has played 41 first-class matches, with 116 wickets (average 22.56). He was a part of the Test squad in Australia earlier this year. Though he did not play any match in the series. Taylor, who will continue to play in the shorter formats, had made his debut against Sri Lanka in 2003 and played his last Test series against Australia in January this year. He took 130 wickets in his 46 Test-matches career.
