Colin Munro plays a reverse sweep against England

Man of the Match: English opener Jason Roy has many shots in his arsenal, mostly power-packed. His 78 runs off 44 balls knocked the stuffing out of the total and ensured the required run rate never became an issue. His wicket will be the key in the final.

Key moment: England restricted the Black Caps to 5-20 in the final four overs, with the last two overs yielding 3-6. England’s rise started at this moment. The New Zealand total dropped at least 20 runs below what was predicted after 10 overs.

Shot of the match: There are two candidates for this. Not Roy, who had every shot but from the Black Caps. Williamson hit a spectacular six over mid-off but more exciting was Colin Munro whose switch-hits remind one of former English batsman Kevin Pietersen. Munro reverse-swept Adil Rashid over mid-wicket/cover (right-hander/left-hander).

Field moment: David Willey showed impressive athleticism to cut off a Ross Taylor pull shot on the boundary. The English fast bowler sprinted round and at full stretch patted the ball back in before cannoning into the rope.

The fastest ball: Adam Milne bowled a 151.3 kph full ball that was returned at twice the speed.

Emotional farewell: New Zealand spinner Nathan McCullum has decided to retire from cricket after his side’s seven-wicket loss to England at the World Twenty20 semi-finals here on Wednesday. McCullum announced in October that he would retire from international cricket at the end of the season to spend more time with his family. He made his T20 debut in 2007 before making the ODI squad two years later. McCullum took to  Twitter following the semi-final defeat to thank the Black Caps for the “great ride”. “Can’t thank my Black Caps team mates enough. Been a great ride. Great times on and off the field,” he wrote, along with a photo of his shirt.
