Australia will be seeking to end their drought in T20 World Cup when Steve Smith leads them in the world championship in the shortest format in India.

Australia appear to have a lot of uncertainties ahead of the World Cup. They were beaten 3-0 at home by India in their most recent T20 series and the selectors made several changes picking a squad for the global event.

Steve Smith was handed the captaincy, making him the leader in all three formats, while the squad includes three players who have yet to play in a T20 international – wicketkeeper Peter Nevill, left-arm spinner Ashton Agar and leg-spinner Adam Zampa.

While Nevill has established himself as Australia’s Test wicketkeeper, Agar, Zampa and fast bowler Andrew Tye are virtual novices at international level. Agar has played in two Tests and two ODIs, famously hitting 98 at No. 11 on Test debut in the 2013 Ashes. Zampa made his debut and played in two ODIs in New Zealand last month.

Australia have a poor record in T20 against India, Pakistan, West Indies and Sri Lanka.

    England
It has been six years and two editions since England conquered the World in the shortest format. The Three Lions haven’t had a great run in the last two editions bowing out in the group stages in 2012 and 2014.
However, under coach Trevor Bayliss, England can hope to recreate the magic of 2010. Bayliss would be the right man to go to for England. The Australian knows the nuances of the success mantra in India having coached Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL triumphs. England’s recent form has been a mixed bag.
After winning against New Zealand and Pakistan, their South African sojourn has been disappointing losing the ODI series 2-3, after being 2-0 up. And their T20 battle was nothing short of a debacle.
England, fielding a young team, would bank on the murderous form of Alex Hales, the experience of Liam Plunkett, Ben Stokes and skipper Eoin Morgan.
Adil Rashid, who performed well in the Big Bash league, would be itching his fingers to turn the ball in friendly conditions. With no Stuart Broad and Steven Finn, the bowling looks to be the weak link in England’s quest.
