Dhoni threatens 100-crore defamation suit against Hindi daily
India's limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has reportedly sent a legal notice to a Hindi daily 'Sun Star', after the newspaper carried a sting alleging that 2014 Manchester Test against England was fixed.
New Delhi
According to the publication, DDCA sports secretary Sunil Dev, who was the Team manager during the 2014 Test series in England, alleged that Dhoni, then Test captain, fixed the fourth match in Manchester, on camera in a sting operation.
Contesting the claims, Dhoni's lawyers have sent a nine-page legal notice which calls Dev's allegations "false propaganda" and an "attempt to defame Dhoni" and threatened to sue the daily if it fails to issue denials within the next 48 hours.
"Our client (Dhoni) reserves the right to institute proceedings for the recovery of damages up to Rs 100 crores from you on account of the defamation, mental agony and trauma caused to him due to this by causing loss of his reputation," reads the legal notice.
The legal notice also mentioned that Dev have since denied the match-fixing allegations and questioned the integrity of the sting operation.
