Chennai
Vachier-Lagrave of France and Hikaru Nakamura of US tied for first place with eight points each but after the tiebreak the top seeded American, who is also the defending champion, took the first place winning the fifth tiebreak game after four draws.Â
Anand managed to keep his top rank in India intact after his last-round win as Harikrishna conceded a draw in the last round to Chinese Li Chao.
In the end, Anand lost 22 Elo points, going down to 2762 but Hari, who finished fourth here, has gained only 3.5 points which would put him on 2758.Â
Anand has the Candidates coming up next where he would be a different kettle of fish, so Hari would have to wait for his chances to reach the top of Indian rankings.Â
Sethuraman drew with Etienne Bacrot of France in the last round to log 7.5 points while Li Chao and Harikrishna too drew their game.Â
The next best Indian performance was by Ahijeet Gupta, who beat Nakar Eiylon and come 10th in the standings. The two ladies of India, Dronavalli Harika and Padmini Rout, did a good job with a final tally of six and 5.5 points respectively.Â
