Anirban Lahiri forayed into the golfing scene at the young age of 20 and tasted his first major success in 2011 at the Panasonic open. Since then he has climbed more than 300 places and is currently ranked 40th in the world. Talking about the sport, Anirban says, “The golfing scene in India has improved a lot more than before.
People like Jeev Milkha Singh and Arjun Atwal have taken the sport in the country to new heights.” He goes on to add that; golf should be made a school sport in India. “More children will start taking up golf actively. At the same time, increase in golf terrains is the need of the hour.
After my dad’s retirement I had to move to Bangalore for the sake of golf ranges,” adds Anirban. Talking about his success at the PGA Championship, he says, “I am happy to have finished in the top five at the American championship which catapulted my rankings. I believe 2016 will be a better year for me.” The golfer will be a part of Nirmayan Charity PROAM Golf Tournament organised by the Madras Round Table in Chennai tomorrow (Saturday). “I am glad to be a part of such a noble cause.
I got to know about the disastrous Chennai floods through news channels and was really disturbed. The entire country knows what the people of the city went through,” says Anirban. He also says that Chennaiites should be proud of themselves as everyone showed immense resilience and joined hands in bringing the city back to normalcy.
