Many benefits of chanting Lalitha Sahasranamam
In fact, reading Lalitha Sahasrananmam here is considered a benefit of good karma done by one in previous births.
Chennai
It is a common practice among all humann beings to approach their mothers, rather than their fathers, whenever they are in need of something. It is the mother who recommends the case of the child to the father or she does it herself, using her resources.
Even when we visit temples, we pray to Karpagambal before turning to Siva’ s sannidhi, or if it is a Vaishnavite temple, we enter the Thayar sannidhi first and then Vishnu’s. This is because the Goddesses facilitate the fruition of our prayers.
Therefore, it is not surprising that Lalitha Saharsanamam is one of the only two prayers chanted anywhere and everywhere— be it in a temple, a family occasion or a marriage, etc. Lalitha Sahasranamam is so powerful that it will ensure a life free from the travails of poverty, ill health, mental stress, etc. The Lalithambigai temple in Tirumeeyachur on the Mayavaram-Tiruvarur Road is the most famous temple and one should hear the recitation here, at least once in one’s lifetime.
The Goddess is seen in a seated posture and whenever a devotee prays to Her here, She is said to bless his/her soul.
In fact, reading Lalitha Sahasrananmam here is considered a benefit of good karma done by one in previous births.
The prayer is said to have been authored by celestial women.
Equally revered is the commentary written on it by Bhaskara Rayar, who was directly blessed by Her.
Bhaskara was born in a small village near Kumbakonam. He, along with his wife, was in the habit of conducting elaborate daily rituals for Lalithambigai.
Lacking a regular income, he resorted to borrowing money, without his wife’s knowledge, from a usurer. However, he could not repay a single paisa.
The loan shark decided to shame him and landed up outside his house one day, when Bhaskara was in his prayers.
He shouted at him, demanding repayment. His wife came out and upon learning about the loan, told him to wait for a minute.
She walked a few steps and returned with the amount due to the usurer. The surprised lender went away calmly.
When Bhaskara completed his prayers, he turned to his wife and asked, “Who caused all that disturbance?” When she began to reply that it was a usurer, a guilty Bhaskara rushed out of the house. However, when he went to the usurer, he was surprised to learn his debts were cleared by his wife. When he questioned her, she refuted it saying she did not possess any money. The entire village soon realised that it was Lalithambigai who had appeared in person and ensured her devotee led a peaceful life. Moved by Her benevolence, Bhaskara Rayar wrote a learned, moving commentary on Lalitha Sahasranamam.
Anyone who chants this prayer with focus will receive Divine blessings.
