Siddhanta Perumandram plans to restart ‘Ilam Saiva Pulavar’ course
The 110-year-old Saiva Siddhanta Perumandram has decided to restart the ‘Ilam Saiva Pulavar’ course introduced by the Mandram in the early 1940s which lost relevance with time, according Mandram head S. Saravanan

Talking to told DT Next on Tuesday he said it would be made a three-year course which could be the basis for a PG degree. He added that the course currently being taught in Sri Lanka had elicited a good response. The Mandram also planned to start this course in Malaysia due to demand while in Europe nearly 1,000 persons were interested in attending the course as there was no structured course on this subject, Saravanan said.
The Mandram was also thinking of approaching the Madras University to undertake this course jointly, he added. The Mandram planned to start ‘Sandror Varisai’ which would highlight 2,000 years of Shavaism, Saravanan said and added that efforts would be made to teach youth on the proper method to approach temples through Saivite methods to ensure that temple worship was relevant to their lives.
Training on dance, yoga and music based on Saivite precepts would also be taught soon, he said. Stating that it was the Mandram which had coined the term ‘Sangam literature’ which was called ‘Paatum Thogaiyum’ earlier, Saravanan said Sangam literature would be published again containing present day explanations to appeal to youth.
