CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Selvaperunthagai on Saturday denied any talks conducted with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the backdrop of brewing conflict with the ally DMK.

Responding to a query on a reported power-sharing offer from actor Vijay’s party, he said he did not have an answer to that. He clarified that the Congress had never discussed an alliance with the TVK and was engaged only in alliance talks with the DMK.

Criticising AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, Selvaperunthagai said claims that parties would exit the INDIA bloc would not come true. He asserted that no party would walk out of the alliance and alleged that some parties were being misled by what he termed the false promises of the National Democratic Alliance.

Meanwhile, he said the party had received more than 6,000 applications from aspiring candidates across the State, indicating strong grassroots enthusiasm ahead of the upcoming elections.

Addressing the media at the Sathiyamoorthi Bhavan in Chennai, Selvaperunthagai said the Congress had been receiving applications from all districts and described the response as overwhelming.

He also referred to the recent meeting between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and DMK MP Kanimozhi, describing the interaction as cordial and held in a positive atmosphere.
