TNPCB to release Rs 10.4 lakh towards plantation drive

The state passed a Government Order (GO) releasing funds to the tune of Rs 10.4 lakh for planting 71 lakh saplings in the state.

According to the GO, “Chairman of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) is permitted by state government to release Rs 10.4 lakh towards the planting of 71 lakh saplings under massive tree planting programme held on the occasion of 71st birth anniversary of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa on February 24, this year.”

Since the demise of Jayalalithaa, the state government is observing her birth anniversary by announcing massive tree plantation drive. On the 70th birth anniversary, celebrated last year, state government announced the plantation drive of 70 lakh saplings across the state to increase the green cover and the environment of the state. 

Similarly, this year too, the massive plantation drive was announced by the state government to plant 71 lakh saplings on the occasion of 71st birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa. The programme is implemented by the Forest Department funded by Environment Department.

To implement the programme, the Chairman of TNPCB sought approval from the state government for releasing funds to the Forest Department. The approval for releasing funds was granted according to which the funds will be released for the inauguration function of the massive tree plantation programme.
