The two cities have signed an agreement to share and improve their cultural and commercial understanding of each other. It is an initiative of the Centre to pair 20 top performing smart cities with 20 least performing cities. The agreement between the two cities is aimed at improving development works, tourism, culture and trade.
Tirupur and Vellore were among the 20 best performing smart cities as per the announcement by the Union Ministry for Urban Housing and Urban Affairs. Tirupur Corporation Commissioner K Siva Kumar said that the district has been credited as one of the best performing for its speedy execution of works under smart city projects.
“While comparing to other cities, tenders were issued and work orders given in most of the projects under Smart City scheme in Tirupur. Works on most of the proposed projects have commenced and are being executed at a faster pace,” the commissioner said.
Officials of both the sister cities are likely to visit each other to study and implement better projects.
