A former Rajya Sabha MP, Ramamurthy had also served as a member of the legislative council. Offering his condolences to the bereaved family members of Ramamurthy, Chief Minister Stalin, in a statement, said, the former TNCC chief, who was close to Kamarajar, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, had created a mark by striving for the welfare of Tamil Nadu. Describing him as a ‘friend’ of former DMK chief M Karunanidhi, Stalin said that he was saddened by the news about the demise of the former Leader of Opposition.
TN Congress president KS Alagiri said, the demise of Ramamurthy, who had held various positions in the party, was an irreparable loss to the party. As a member of the Legislative Council, Ramamurthy had voiced strongly for people’s issues.
Octogenarian Ramamurthy has been abstaining from active politics for a while. Former TNCC chief and Tiruchy MP Su Thirunavukkarasar was also among the leaders who had condoled the demise of Ramamurthy.
