The Madras High Court has stayed the single judge order quashing the appointment of AIADMK leader and former minister Agri Krishnamoorthy as chairman of the Tiruvannamalai District Milk Producers Cooperative Society (Aavin).

When the plea came up for hearing on Tuesday, a division bench comprising Justice Vineet Kothari and Justice R Suresh Kumar granted an interim stay after directing both Mani and Sudhagar, the petitioners who had moved the plea against the former minister, to file their replies by January 7.

The single judge had quashed Krishnamoorthy’s appointment after holding that the rules governing cooperative societies in the State were not followed. The appointment was quashed based on the submission by the petitioners that there are 522 cooperative societies in Tiruvannamalai district, producing three lakh litres of milk per day. But the Tiruvannamalai District Cooperative Societies sub-registrar had appointed Agri Krishnamoorthy as chairman of Tiruvannamalai District Milk Producers Cooperative Society on August 28 without holding elections.

Moreover, his appointment was made by virtue of him running a milk producers’ union at Illathur, while the said union has not supplied even a litre of milk to Aavin till date contrary to the rules that insists on a society supplying at least 120 litres of milk in 90 days.
