Tamil Nadu | Special category MBBS, BDS counselling commences; 4,860 apply under 7.5% quota

CHENNAI: Special category counselling for admission to MBBS and BDS courses began in person on Thursday, with candidates under the 7.5 per cent reservation for government school students, sports quota, children of ex-servicemen and persons with disabilities attending the counselling.

A total of 72,633 applications were received for MBBS and BDS admissions. Of these, 4,860 applications were under the 7.5 per cent reservation for government school students, 468 under the sports quota, 524 from children of ex-servicemen and 212 from persons with disabilities.
After scrutiny, 3,625 applications under the 7.5 per cent government school reservation were accepted.

As part of Thursday's counselling, call letters were issued to candidates under the government school quota based on their rank and NEET scores. In the general category, candidates who scored between 599 and 469 marks and those who scored between 468 and 433 marks were called for counselling.

Candidates belonging to the SC, SCA and ST categories under the government school quota were also called based on their respective ranks.
The special category counselling is being conducted offline, with candidates required to attend the venue according to the schedule mentioned in their call letters.

Meanwhile, the general online counselling for MBBS and BDS courses began at noon on Thursday. Eligible candidates can register, pay the counselling fee and opt for their preferred colleges and courses until 5 pm on August 19.
