CHENNAI: Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, along with school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, on Friday inaugurated a new three-story building worth Rs 11.90 crore, featuring 40 additional classrooms, which has been constructed at the government girls' higher secondary school at Ashok Nagar here.

Following this, the launch event for the government school ambassador scheme was held on the school premises. Anbil Mahesh Poyyazhini inaugurated the former student mentoring scheme and released the "Vizhuthugal app".

State Project Committee Vice Chairman J Jeyaranjan, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan, former Director Mylswamy Annadurai, Model Schools Member Secretary R Sudhan, and others took part.

In his speech at the event, Anbil Mahesh said, "Through this scheme, we are coordinating with former students. Personalities like Mylswamy Annadurai and Narayanan should emerge in large numbers across Tamil Nadu.

If these luminaries step into government schools as school ambassadors, many more will surely be inspired. It is with this deep realisation that, under the guidance of the Chief Minister, this school ambassador scheme has been created.

The School Education Minister said that "education and marks are essential. At the same time, the arts must be given equal importance. This arts festival was introduced precisely to showcase the unique talents of school students"

"Students from schools, blocks, and districts have progressed through multiple levels in the arts festival competitions to win at the state level", he said adding "if the students want to express any talent they possess, they should never hesitate to speak up and must not worry that other students or teachers might mock them for showcasing unique skills like singing or dancing."

We look forward to journeying with you continuously. Share your valuable suggestions for this department. We are ready to implement them."

Subsequently, an event in the evening to distribute prizes to student winners of the state-level arts festival and forum competitions organised by the School Education Department was held at the Anna Centenary Library Auditorium in Chennai.
