Rohini R Bhajibhakare, who assumed office as the 171st Collector of Salem on Monday, is the first woman to occupy the chair. She has been appointed in place of V Sampath, who was transferred and posted as the Director of Social Security Schemes on August 25. Earlier, Rohini was the Additional Collector (Development) and Project Officer for the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) for Madurai district. She said that she will strive hard to make Salem the first district in sanitation, education and employment in Tamil Nadu.
“The district administration will march towards people’s welfare wherein efforts will be taken to bring all the government schemes to the needy. Administration will protect women from sexual harassment,” she said and added that awareness campaigns, will be taken to empower women.
