CHENNAI: With the introduction of the new employability skills course for diploma students under the Naan Mudhalvan Scheme, a training programme with financial assistance would be provided to the faculty members in polytechnic colleges across the State.

According to the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), the implementation of Naan Mudhalvan add-on courses for the even semester of the academic year 2025-2026 is under way.

As part of the implementation process, before the official launch of the courses to the students, the teachers would undergo mandatory skill development programmes, according to the DoTE.

It has proposed a comprehensive faculty development programme on ‘employability skills’ from January 5, 2026, to January 10 for this academic year.

The faculty attendance is mandatory for all days of the training, and upon the successful completion of the post assessment, the teachers will receive the Faculty Development Programme certificates.

The financial assistance of Rs 250 per day (subject to attendance) would be provided to the participants.

The DoTE also requested all principals of polytechnic colleges across the State to ensure the active participation of the faculty members in the training programme.

The DoTE sources further noted that teachers from over 500 polytechnic institutions are expected to participate in the training programme.

An official said that the training programme will be conducted in various colleges across the State, from Chennai to Kanniyakumari, covering north, central, west and south regions.

The Dote has directed the principals of the polytechnic colleges to depute the faculty members based on the students’ enrollment, ensuring the staffto-student ratio of 1:100 for the training programme. The mapping of the institutions with the host college will be available on the DoTE’s portal.

Naan Mudhalvan scheme offers free, industry-aligned employability skill courses for youth (18-35) in sectors like IT, green jobs, BFSI, logistics, and more, focusing on emerging tech, soft skills, and job readiness, with training provided through empanelled partners in colleges.
