With winds expected to reach a speed of 45 kmph, RMC, Chennai, issued a coastal warning on Sunday, advising fishermen in deep sea to return and also cautioning fishermen not to set course for the next 48
hours. The warning is for the fishers in the Puducherry coast as well.
“Over the next 48 hours, owing to the depression in the Bay of Bengal, parts of Tamil Nadu and Chennai are expected to see rainfall. The rainfall in Chennai city will be mild to moderate,” said S Balachandran, director, Regional Meteorological Centre. Districts like Vellore, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Tirupur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai and Cuddalore are expected to receive heavy rain over the next 48 hours.
“The startiform clouds associated with the intense bands are giving steady rains to Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Chennai. This will continue throughout the day with varying intensity at times. Mostly we will see steady rains throughout the day, with increase in intensity later in the evening,” said popular weather blogger Pradeep John, who runs the page Tamil Nadu Weatherman. The weather stations at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam did not record significant amount of rainfall till Sunday evening, according to meteorological department officials. The maximum recorded temperatures were 26.6 degrees Celsius and 26.5 degrees Celsius respectively, while the minimum were 25 degrees Celsius and 25.5 degrees Celsius.
