Improve quality of education in northern districts: Anbumani

CHENNAI: Pointing out that the northern districts have registered lower pass percentage in Class 10 and 11 board examinations, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss urged the state government to implement special projects to improve the quality of education in those districts.
In a statement, Anbumani said that even though Ariyalur, Villupuram and Dharmapuri have secured places in the top 15 districts in the Class 10 result, of the 10 districts at the bottom of the list, there are 8 northern districts in Class 10 and 11 lists.
Vellore is in the last position in both Class 10 and 11 exam results.
"It is not news that northern districts are lagging in results and quality of education. This has continued for the last 40 years. I have been explaining the reasons for the problem. There is a shortage of teachers in government schools in northern districts, apart from a lack of proper infrastructure. Another reason is the socio-economic status do the people of those districts," he added.
Alleging that the government remains indifferent towards the northern districts, Anbumani said that the government could have easily uplifted the education in the districts where it has a social justice perception.
"If a sufficient number of teachers were appointed to the government schools in northern districts, education could have improved. But the government is not concerned about the declining status of the northern districts," he said.
Saying that Tamil Nadu cannot grow without improving education in the northern districts, Anbumani urged the government to realise the issue and take measures to improve the quality of life and quality of education in those districts.
