Free school items worth Rs 1,141 crore distributed across TN
The state ministers and DMK legislators across TN took turns distributing school uniforms and books in their respective constituencies.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday kick-started the distribution of school items to students of Lady Wellington Higher Secondary of School, along with Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.
The state ministers and DMK legislators across TN took turns distributing school uniforms and books in their respective constituencies.
Mayor R Priya and Minister PK Sekarbabu distributed uniforms and study materials to students of Chennai Primary and High School at Cooks Road in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar zone, and at Sundarampillai Middle School in Anna Nagar Zone. There are 417 schools, including 206 primary schools, 130 middle schools, 46 high schools, and 35 higher secondary schools, within the Chennai corporation limit. In these, there are 3,739 teachers and 140 permanent non-teaching staff working. There are 12,621 kindergarten students studying in 272 primary and middle schools.
Deputy Mayor M Magesh Kumaar distributed study materials, bags and uniforms to students of Venkatapuram Chennai Primary School, St Thomas Mount in the Adyar zone. Mayor Priya, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar MLA Thyagan Kavi, GCC Commissioner Kumaragurabaran, Joint Commissioner (education) Vijaya Rani, councillors, and other officials were present at the distribution event.
Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ma Subramanian distributed educational materials to students in Manthope Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School, Saidapet, on Monday. According to official sources, for the academic year 2025-26, study materials worth Rs 311 crore, 4.30 crore textbooks worth Rs 457 crore, 1.30 crore uniforms worth Rs 462 crore, 9.6 crore notebooks worth Rs 162 crore and other equipment worth Rs 211 crore (Rs 1,141 crore total) are to be distributed.
In the beginning of every academic year, the TN government provides free textbooks, uniforms, notebooks, book bags, shoes, calendars, socks, raincoats, woollen shirts, coloured pencils and various equipment to students in government and government aided schools.
