The other deceased were identified as Hema (48), Subramani’s wife, daughter Shivani (20), and Subramani’s mother Rukmani (72).
According to N. Shreenath, the Superintendent of Police in Kanyakumari, Subramani was involved in wholesale trading of tobacco products and also handled a beverage agency. He had secured a bank loan to the tune of Rs. 1 crore to renovate his house, but could not repay owing to loss in business.
The alleged suicide of Subramani and his family came to light after an employee reached the former’s house on Saturday morning to collect the office keys. Receiving no response despite knocking the house door, the employee tried to reach Subramani over phone, but in vain. Later, people found Subramani and his family dead. It is suspected that they committed suicide by consuming poison. The Vadasery police have booked a case and have sent the bodies for post mortem.
