CHENNAI: A 65-year-old man has been attacked by a cow at Triplicane and admitted at the nearest hospital. Though the civic body intensified cattle catch drive in the city, this is the third case reported within two weeks in the area.

Kasthuri Rangan was attacked on Monday night and his head was severely injured and rushed to the nearby private hospital for treatment. The police examining the surveillance camera footage in search of the cow owner in Triplicane.

Following the corporation commissioner's instruction, at least 16 cattle were caught on Monday.

Recently, Selvi (51) and Sundaram (80) were attacked and injured by a cow that was loitering in the area.

They were admitted at Government multi-super speciality hospital, Omandurar for treatment. The Chennai Corporation continues to catch cows in the area and imposes a penalty fine amount of Rs 5,000 to the owners.

"The cattle owner should be responsible for ensuring that the cows are tied up in a shelter. The owners tie up the cows as soon as they see the vehicle. But the police have registered complaints against the cattle owners in many areas including Kolathur, Old Washermenpet, Pullianthope, Anna Nagar, Mylapore and Triplicane, " said GCC commissioner J Radhakrishnan.
