Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Engineers’ Association (TNEBEA) has written to the chairman of the Tangedco against the junior engineers seeking redesignation as assistant engineers. “The association has come to understand there is an illegal and unjust move by the some of the diploma holders/junior engineers for redesignation as assistant engineers in the cadres of mechanical, civil and electrical as if they have acquired their BE degree from a private deemed university,” the association said in a letter.

The TNEBEA said that it would like to reiterate that these diploma holders very well knowing the fact and consequences of such courses and degrees in the board and continued without any clearance. They are now trying to influence the board by misconstruing the facts and circumstances of the issues. “As Tangedco is a large organisation requiring personnel with competence and technical skills and knowledge to run the systems, the organisation should in no way succumb to the illegal move which is absolutely disastrous in nature,” it said.

Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Engineers’ Sangam (TNEBES), an association representing the diploma holders, objected to the rejection of the applications filed by the junior engineers, who have completed a degree in engineering through distance education mode, for the assistant engineer promotions through internal selection.

Pointing out that the junior engineers have cleared the exam conducted by the AICTE and UGC following the Supreme Court direction to validate their degree, the TNEBES said that they pursued the studies after getting due permission from the board and now they have applied for the promotion which is natural and within the rules.

The association has sought the intervention of the Tangedco chairman and urged him to direct the personnel management department to process promotion and redesignation for all theeligible individuals abiding by the judgement of the Supreme Court.
