Virudhunagar District Fire Officer K Ganesan said the Sivakasi Station Fire Office received a fire call at 10.58 am and brigades from Sivakasi rushed to the spot. Ganesan said it was a licensed unit and the ill-fated worker was killed in the explosion while cleaning the 56th room of the unit. The DFO said friction could have caused the explosion.
Meanwhile, the death toll in cracker manufacturing unit explosion, which occurred at Chippiparai near Sattur, on March 20, has risen to 10. Murugalakshmi, resident of Mukkutumalai near Kovilpatti, succumbed to burns on Sunday night.
