Speaking at the 103rd Jayanthi celebrations of Dr Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswami at Suttur village, he opined " We need to take steps to make our country economically viable. We must make united efforts to improve lives of farmers".

The Vice President also inaugurated Sri Channaveera Deshikendra Gurukula Building at Suttur Srikshetra in Nanjangud Taluk in the District.

Addressing the gathering, he said "Dr Rajendra Mahaswamiji's vision was beyond the ordinary. He was a Guru in the real sense of the term. Swamiji thought beyond his times and dream of India which is rich in culture and heritage, but poor in material well-being.

The tradition of Gurukula is one of the most unique and ancient traditions of our country. A Guru is considered as God in human form and accorded the highest respect in the social hierarchy next to parents."

"Gurukula system symbolises the extraordinary relationship between Guru and student and no other culture accords such importance to 'Guru-Sishiya parampara' as we do in India. A student is expected to pay utmost respect to his Guru and qualify himself to earn his grace and obtain spiritual knowledge," he added.

He also praised the Kannada language and appealed the people to speak in their mother tongue. "Mother tongue is like the two eyes and any other language is like a 'Spectacle.' Kannada language is a beautiful language and has great history."

Referring to former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, Mr Naidu said that "he never forgets his home town Hassan after he became Prime Minister.  No one should forget their mother land and mother tongue".

Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji on behalf of Sri Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana Mutt, Suttur Srikshetra handed over a cheque of Rs 50 lakhs to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund on the occasion. The donation is toward the reconstruction of flood affected areas including Kodagu District and other places in Karnataka.

Mutt also donated Rs 10 lakhs to Kerala flood relief fund on the occasion.

Books of Rajendra Chitra Samputa (English) and Sutturu Surudhenu (Hindi) were released on the occasion.
