CHENNAI: After the ruling DMK, it was the turn of the state Congress to take on the state BJP vis-a-vis the Sanatana Dharma debate.
Congress war room in charge of Karnataka polls cum former IAS officer Sasikanth Senthil on Tuesday sought to hit out at state BJP president K Annamalai for his 'justification' of the practice of 'Sati' in the distant past.
Posting a damning critique against Annamalai's 'Sati' argument on micro blogging site 'X', Sasikanth Senthil cited references to the definition of the practice of Sati and Jauhar and said, "Look how they are creating stories."

Speaking at a protest meeting condemning the DMK's discourse against Sanatana Dharma, Annamalai said that sati was practiced by Indian women to protect their chastity at the time of invasion of foreign rulers.
The state BJP president's reasoning drew flak on social media with many liberal and progressive minded netizens condemning the Tamil Nadu chief of the saffron party for allegedly justifying sati in the long forgotten past.
