Assistant director arrested for rape of college student

CHENNAI: City Police have secured a 25-year-old man, an assistant director in Kollywood for the alleged rape of a college student after a drinking session at the former's rented house in Maduravoyal.
The accused was identified as A Ajithkumar, from Villupuram. He was staying with a friend, The victim is a 19-year-old college student from Erode who had visited Chennai to apply for a visa.
The victim was introduced to the accused through a mutual friend and she stayed in Ajith Kumar's apartment.
The group had consumed alcohol one night and taking advantage of the victim's lack of consciousness, the accused had sexually assaulted her, police investigations revealed.
On realizing that she was abused, the girl alerted her cousin in Erode, who informed the police.
Police rescued the girl from the house and based on her complaint, the Maduravoyal All Women Police registered a case on Sunday and arrested Ajithkumar on Monday. Ajithkumar was booked under IPC section 342 (wrongful confinement) and 376 (rape).
He has been remanded to judicial custody.
