On opening this release, this scribe was in shock as it had nothing to do with the regular news pertaining to health but led with information pertaining to the loss of a Jallikattu bull.
While one understands that news of Jallikattu bulls losing their lives while participating in the sport is not taken lightly by owners and the public, as was very evident when the news of an official’s bull’s death started doing the rounds on WhatsApp on Sunday evening, the release stumped health reporters as it left many wondering how the death of a bull in a sport would relate to health communiques.
The death of the animal is indeed a matter of serious concern, not only to the owner and animal rights activists, but to many others as well. However, for this scribe, and maybe some others, it was a question of whether or not to consider the piece of information as something worthy of an official government release.
