Francina (24), the victim, was to have been married in a week’s time. On Wednesday, she went to pray in the church attached to the school where she taught, as she frequently did. Keegan Jose Gomez (25) who was there before her reportedly attacked her on her head and arms before fleeing. Francina, who was bleeding heavily was rushed to the Thoothukudi Government Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Meanwhile, while police were investigating the attack in the church, received information that Keegan had committed suicide by hanging at a relative’s house that was undergoing renovation, in Thoothukudi.

According to the police, Keegan had been stalking Francina for over a year, professing his love for her but she had rejected his advances. Meanwhile Francina’s marriage had been fixed for September 8 and on coming to know of the impending nuptials, Keegan decided to murder her. Another source close to family claimed that Francina’s cousin had complained about the stalker to the Thoothukudi Police station following which Inspector Suresh Kumar had warned Keegan.

In the end, nothing could save her. Thoothukudi South Police have booked two cases and are investigating the incident. Thoothukudi SP Ashwin Kotnis and ASP Arun Sakthi Kumar inspected both the crime scenes and carried out investigation.

It was Francina’s last day at work. She was to be relieved from duty on Wednesday.
