Marina Beach is always Chennai's delight and now, it has regained its old charm. As officials announced to open the beach for public from today after being shut for lockdown for nearly 8 months. Strollers and fitness enthusiasts were seen enjoying their morning walks and physical exercise.
Marina is considered as a popular escape for locals and tourists of the city. It was visibly seen that citizens missed their favourite hang out spot during the lockdown.
Vendors and shopkeepers in the beach have welcomed the move to open the Marina as they were lying shut for several months severely affecting their livelihood. Even though the civic body will make arrangement for regulating the crowds at the beach, the officials will follow the standard operating procedure (SOP) framed by the government. Also, penalties will be imposed on visitors who fail to adhere to the mask compliance and vendors violating social distancing norms.
Presently, the civic body collects a fine of Rs 200 from those who come from outside without wearing masks and seals shops if they violate social distancing norms.
