The annexure to the GO states that the final beneficiaries list would be uploaded on the net and that objections should be put forth within a week. Cooperative department sources suggested that the initial list should also be uploaded calling for objections as some beneficiaries could be out of station.
“The time for objections should also be extended to three weeks before final list is prepared,” they added. The practice of putting up only names of beneficiaries with their society’s membership numbers and villages on Panchayats’ notice boards is not enough, Farmers’ association members said.
“If the exact address and land holding were also included, it would ensure that only the real beneficiary benefitted.” They also cited the arrest of president, secretary and the VAO of the Arulur primary agricultural cooperative society in Tiruvidaimarudur taluk in Thanjavur district for malpractices in diverting funds from due beneficiaries.
The secretary of the PACS of Venketesasamudram near Budalur in the same district was also arrested for a similar reason. Cooperative officials also recalled the furore created by the Rs 60,000 crore loan waiver undertaken by the previous UPA govt in 2007. “The parliament-appointed committees visited across the country and found out that bona fide farmers were benefitted only to the tune of Rs 29,000 crore.”
